After installing kflickr onto a clean install of Ubuntu Hardy (8.04) and loading some photos, I discovered that there were no thumbnails displaying - but rather a broken thumbnail icon.

It appears that this is a dependancy problem - as kflickr depends on some kde specific libraries.

To rectify the problems we need to install kdebase-kio-plugins

sudo apt-get install kdebase-kio-plugins

Now close kflickr and open up again - you should be able to preview thumbnails now :-)

UPDATE: This fix does not work in Intrepid because Intrepid uses KDE4…

    I personally use Postr http://burtonini.com/blog/computers/postr

It’s in the standard Ubuntu repos.

    KDE sucks.

hmm, your post is old but it was Tweeted.. I thought it was new, lol.

    Hey

Basically I was previously using kflickr on Hardy 8.04 but then I recently wiped my disks and did a clean install of Intrepid 8.10. That broke support for kflickr, which is a shame because as much as KDE sucks, kflickr actually had quite a lot of handy features. I recently updated this post which is why you saw it, I’m off to take a look at postr now!

    Thanks

    Jono

postr is good. Only problem is that the Upload button doesn’t work and one has to go to the File menu, then click Upload. I’ve checked the code and looks like there is no code for the Upload button.. oops.

I’m checking out DFO (Desktop Flickr Organiser) now. I refuse to install KDE applications! ha.

A new release of kFlickr, ported to KDE4, is now available. Unofficial Debs for Intrepid can be had from the sourceforge site. There remains work to be done but most of the functionality that was previously available in kFlickr is available.

TundraMan - thanks for the info. I will head over to download the debs now. Hopefully it will be in the repository soon so I can update via apt-get!

Just to all those interested - the new version of kflickr (available in a deb package from the sourceforge website) works perfectly in Ubuntu Intrepid 810
