WL-HDD Guide Up and Running

Having spent a long time writing my guides on the Asus WL-HDD, I have finally made the wiki public.
I have spent a long time getting used to the wiki software and have since made my guides a lot easier to browse navigation wise. I will keep adding new guides and hopefully, others may also contribute. I am really pleased with my creation, if you get time, please check it out.

If you don’t know what the WL-HDD is, it is a small Network-attached storage device that runs an embedded version of busybox linux. However, with an unofficial firmware installed on it, you can ‘unsling’ the linux OS and install other packages on it and configure it to do whatever you want.
For example, mine currently has SSH access, runs an FTP server (with username and password), runs User-based Samba and also updates a Dynamic DNS name server. However, it can be used for lots of other things.

    Bon, j’ai de gros problemes de performances avec l’interface Wifi du boiteir WL-HDD.

    Etant un peu “bidouilleur”, j’ai pu installer très rapidement le boitier dans différentes configurations.

    Par exemple,

    1. Le boitier est un relais Wifi, dans un réseau ou le point d’accès principal est un boitier Airport Express, et avec un nom de réseau différent pour chacun des boitiers… Wouaaa
    2. Le boitier est simultanément connecté à un Macintosh via un cable croisé et via le Wifi. Exercice périlleux qui nécessite de bien configurer le DHCP et les configurations IP… Mais ça marche.

    L’accès à l’internet, même dans le cas 1 (WDS, aka relais wifi) fonctionne très bien, et sans baisse de performance détectable. Mais l’accès au disque dur via le wifi n’est pas très rapide. J’obtiens en pratique le résultat suivant, pour la lecture d’un dossier de 2.7 Go :

    • Lecture indirecte, via un autre boitier Wifi, 3 heures.
    • Lecture directe via la connexion Wifi, 2 heures.
    • Lecture directe, via un cable croisé, 0.5 heures.

    Bon, clairement, il y a un vrai problème avec l’accès au disque dur via le Wifi… Si quelqu’un à une idée. J’ai laissé mon mail…
